Purpose

To provide specially designed instruction to students who require supports needed to meet rigorous requirements in the standard curriculum.

Description
Students receive specially designed instruction in a structured Transition Ready with Essential Knowledge (TREK) classroom that utilizes the Essential Elements to address deficits in the areas of behavior, social skills, communication and executive functioning. Through the use of research-based strategies, students receive a continuum of services in an environment that includes visual supports, routines, schedules and organization that moves them to greater independence through levels of learning. Using the tenets of positive behavior supports and reinforcement, students are provided extrinsic and intrinsic motivation to succeed.

Entrance Criteria
Must be identified by the ARD/IEP committee as a student with a disability and in need of specially designed instruction in the areas of self-regulation behaviors, social interaction, executive functioning and work completion skills and that need a high level of support/monitoring to successfully access the general education curriculum.

Exit Criteria
Must be able to perform to be in a more inclusive setting for academic instruction aligned with the standard curriculum with supplementary aids and services. Must be at generalization level in the appropriate use of replacement behaviors, and understanding of social cues and conventions across settings and require a low level of interventions and monitoring.
